CDR Challenge

Mobilising the world’s 1000 largest companies to buy 1M tonnes of permanent CDR in 2025.
We face a massive gap to scale permanent carbon removal (CDR) solutions

To finance CDR projects, we must rapidly expand the universe of buyers

Without these projects, companies will not be able to meet net zero targets

Frequently asked questions

Why should companies meet the Challenge?

After an initial surge of interest, CDR purchases which are critical to financing the industry have not materialized at a rate necessary to scale; without rapid expansion of the buyer pool for this market, projects vital to meeting corporate net zero ambitions cannot be built.

Why is the benchmark so low?

This benchmark is intentionally low to ensure the Challenge is accessible to a wide range of companies, regardless of their size or current climate commitments. The focus is on creating a broad base of support to accelerate the CDR industry.

My company has already bought CDRs, why should we care?

Entering a new purchase agreement in 2025 will demonstrate continued leadership and support for CDR, while recognizing the need to generate the broad corporate support required to grow the industry.

How do I buy CDRs?

Contact the Global 1000 or refer to the website for additional resources to help to make a qualifying purchase.

How do I sign up?

Your company doesn’t need to do anything to participate! The Global 1000 Challenge will monitor public announcements of CDR transactions, along with private notification of transactions that satisfy the Challenge (deals@Global1000Challenge.org) in order to track progress.

How to meet the challenge

Global 1000 will track public transactions of CDRs and update the leaderboard of companies meeting the challenge

If your company prefers to keep details of CDR transactions private, please contact Global 1000 at deals@global1000challenge.org to notify us of successfully having met the challenge
